The company is the world leader in integrated power plants for the production of electricity and air quality control systems. Alstom has solutions for all energy sources (coal, gas, nuclear, fuel-oil, hydropower, wind) and is a leader in innovative technologies for the protection of the environment (reduction of CO2 emissions, elimination of pollutant emissions). Alstom is providing the conventional island for the future EPR nuclear power plant in France. The Group is also developing CO2 capture processes and has integrated this technology in pilot plants in Germany and USA.

Trust. Alstom, with its two activities, three Sectors, numerous management structures, units, production sites and countries is, by definition, a complex company. Mutual trust between colleagues and their management is essential for the proper conduct of the business and effective management of projects.
Team. Alstom’s business is based on delivering projects which require collective discipline and efforts to execute them successfully as well as networking to ensure that the Group takes full advantage of all available competencies. The world leader in very high speed and high speed transport
Alstom supplies rolling stock, transport infrastructure and signalling, maintenance equipment, and global rail systems. From the very first TGV* delivered in 1978 to the AGV, the fourth generation of very high speed trains, Alstom has developed a world leading position in this market sector. Alstom’s technological advances allowed the company to achieve the world rail speed record at a speed of 574.8 km/h on 3 April 2007.
The company is number two worldwide in urban transport : one in four metro systems and one of three tramways in the world have rolled off Alstom’s production lines.
Financial
In financial year 2008/09, Alstom Power had a record order intake:
Gas - contracts for turnkey plants in Europe, North Africa and Asia-Pacific.
Coal and oil - a major contract for phase 3 of the Shoaiba power plant in Saudi Arabia, 6 turbine-generator sets for a coal power plant in South Africa, an order for supercritical boilers for Germany.
Nuclear - a contract for conventional islands for nuclear plants in China.
Hydro and wind - hydro projects in Brazil, Panama and Portugal, frame agreement with Iberdrola to supply 300 MW of wind turbines.
Service - major operation and maintenance contracts in Algeria, Netherlands, Spain, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and retrofit and service contracts in South Africa and USA;
